Team and Role:

The Global Engineering Team is responsible for building products broadening the global reach of SmartNews. Primarily, we are focused on the US News market as a means to broaden our footprint and provide more people high-quality news that they find essential. Presently, we are building a new application called NewsArc.

As a Senior Infrastructure and Release engineer on the Global Engineering team, you will improve, transform, and grow the process and operations for building and releasing our application as well as the systems that support it. Additionally, you will be part of the broader team inventing and evolving the app on a daily basis in a fast moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Build tools, processes and infrastructure that enable us to build a world class news application, delivered on iOS and Android, both through individual contribution and collaborative work, working on site in Tokyo with engineers, and collaborating with the team in Palo Alto. 
• You are expected to identify the product development needs and implement a reliable infrastructure and release process across multiple domains (WEB, mobile, back-end)
• You are expected to rapidly iterate and learn in a fast-paced, collaborative, and international culture.

Requirements

Required Experience

• Proficient (5+ years) in infrastructure and release environments, using React and/or React Native to build cross-platform mobile and/or web applications, and/or Node.js/Typescript for backend systems.
• Experience with CI/CD, databases, release operations.
• Proven experience and strong willingness to thrive in high-speed, rapid-prototyping environments
• Full stack: understanding of and ability to fluidly work in frontend and backend systems
• Interest in news (even if no previous work experience): we want people who care about and understand what we do.

Nice to Have Experience

• Experience building products that rely on AI, ML, ranking, and/or LLM prompt
